Orthopaedic implants have improved significantly over decades. But the design process hasn't kept up. Most implants still come from a catalog of standard sizes, chosen to fit as many patients as possible.

For most patients, close enough is what they get. And when implants don't match anatomy or bone behavior, revision surgery follows.
